Mille Miglia: the Queen of races!
Garagiste e Garagisti! The prestigious and inimitable most famous car race in the world is Italian and is upon us. In mid-June the seals of the 2022 edition will be removed.
The Mille Miglia , also known as the Red Arrow, was born in 1927 from the union of four fervent minds respectively belonging to the so-called "Four Musketeers": Giovanni Canestrini, Franco Mazzotti, Aymo Maggi and Renzo Castagneto.
The race, born as a single race and not in stages, has always been on the Brescia - Rome - Brescia axis with a distance of approximately 1600km, from here, 1000 miles. The race was born as a speed race in line but since 1977 it has been transformed into a historical re-enactment race of regularity, therefore the crews are evaluated on the ability to cover the stages respecting the time schedule established by the race direction or by performing some sections. a well-defined average speed. Finally, timed tests are also scheduled.
Winning will be the crew that is closest to the times decided by the judges with various corrective coefficients which, the older the car, the more advantageous they are.
Speaking of cars, the requirements to enter your vehicle in the competition are: car registered before 1957, which has participated in at least one of the historic editions (1927-1957) at least once and finally the car must be in original condition or restored respecting the original configuration.
The registration fee is not really for everyone, after all we could have imagined it. It starts from a base of € 12,200, up to € 14,640 of Gold up to a maximum of € 67,100 for Platinum membership. It must be said that as you go up with the amount, the more people who can participate (2-4-6) and the more nights you pay at the hotel (4-6-7). A symbolic and inevitable moment is the stamping of the car. In a paddock just outside Brescia, the car and the crew are screened by the judges to check that everything is in order. If the result is positive, an irremovable mark is placed on the steering column or in another non-modifiable part of the vehicle.
And then .... fasten your seat belts and let's go! Happy 2022 edition!
